Java 8 for High Performance Financial Applications
Speaker : John Davies [Co-founder and CTO of C24]
Unlike the last few Java releases, Java 8 (now the default download version from Oracle) is a major change to the language. Not since Java 1.5 have we seen so many fundamental changes to the Java source language itself! There’s always an eagerness to use the latest and greatest features but the new Java 8 lambdas are not only fun features but they offer serious performance enhancements with parallel stream processing.
John will cover a few of the basic features introduced by lambdas and show how we can apply these to complex data processing and analytics in financial services. He will start with simple examples and then move on to more complex financial applications using FpML objects and generating, processing and transforming each of them using Java 8′s lambdas.
John will also cover a few of the developments issues such as exception handling in lambdas, debugging and some ideas around splitting streams.
No financial experience needed! John is just using FpML objects as just the data in the examples. The Java 8 lessons learned in this presentation can be easily applied to other types of applications and other industries.
